Japanese 3DO Magazine

Post by bitrate » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:26 am

Out of the various 3DO publications, this one is by far my favorite... and I can't even read Japanese.

This publication spanned from mid 1994 to mid 1996. They are very high quality magazines jam packed with 3DO information.
Each magazine usually has somewhere between 10 to 20 3DO game reviews complete with large, easy to see pictures.
In fact, they did such a good job of cramming their issues with pictures that the inability to read Japanese almost isn't even a concern.
Along with the reviews on 3DO software, there are many articles covering hardware from the FZ-1 all the way up to and including M2. Peripherals are covered as well.

Here is another reason why I like this magazine so much:

Each magazine came with a thick cardboard insert that housed a disk readable by your 3DO player.

The disks are partitioned into different categories. There would be a section for video clips that usually would have a certain developer being interviewed and showing various steps involved in the development of the given title during the interview.
Other sections would include game demonstrations, illustrations, and a database that would contain information on software and hardware.

PLASTIC YOU FOOL! Wrap them in plastic, plastic sleeves & binders! You are giving me a woody but I'm gonna die, or break into you house and steal them, if you don't protect the magazines!

Ok I'm really tired and you prob do protect them, I'm just playing. They do look to be in great condition, nice collection man! Oh and if you do need some premium plastic sleeves to keep them in a binder(s) I can mail you some in trade for something. I keep all my Nintendo Power mags like that.

Time for bed.

What is that duck creature, and why is he on every single cover (It's like Oprah's magazine or something  )

Seriously, is he some kind of japanese 3DO mascot or something?

The UK also had a good 3DO magazine w/demo discs each month. Some of the reviews were a bit biased, but it was a very well made publication that went into late 1996.

A shame the US mag 3 (what a title heh?) looked so ugly. Get past the shoddy design, and the reviews were usually pretty solid.

Not recently. I've had most of these magazines for many years now.

I was watching a great big horde of these on Yahoo.co.jp and they vanished into the ether...

they do need to be 'escaped' from Japanese world so the rest of us can enjoy them....

I have 3 of these, and they are kind of cool, if somewhat mysterious....

That first picture shows all of the issues printed (with the exception of the first promotional issue that I didn't include in the picture).
There aren't very many of them... but then there aren't very many of any 3DO related magazine  Also, a lot of these magazines cover 2 months instead of one.
One day I'll get all of my 3DO magazines/books and 3DO related magazines/books out and take a picture. I have some oddities that are kind of rare.
