Urgent Question

Post by Martin III » Fri Oct 07, 2011 6:30 pm

In my continued quest for my first 3DO, I just came across this Ebay listing, which ends in a mere six hours. It's an FZ-1, my model of choice, and comes with four games, including two of the five 3DO games which interest me most, Guardian War and Slayer.

But despite what strikes me as a fairly reasonable price for this collection, no one's bid on the thing yet. And that makes me wary. Is there something suspicious about this listing that I haven't noticed? Is the price genuinely reasonable?

In short, should I go for it?

Just a personal thing, but I wouldn't pay that much for it. But thats your business. And I have no idea what these things are going for these days.

There isn't anything wrong with the listing as far as I can see, especially if you are looking for those particular games.

I see it's ended, I wouldn't have bid based on two things. His negative feedback and the "THIS IS THE LIMITED EDITION PANASONIC REAL 3DO SYSTEM, ONLY PRODUCED FOR A SHORT TIME !!!" Limited Edition? Gimme a break, I don't deal with dishonest people.

I agree that his marketing strategies leave a little to be desired, but with the way that Ebay currently works a buyer can return anything for any reason.
So, the risk is mitigated somewhat.

It's not being able to return an item, after you jump through hoops, it's the quality of the person doing the selling. If they can't be honest or even straightforward I won't buy anything from them.

Yes, but the problem is that if you weeded out all of the auctions that were falsely titled as "rare" or "limited" you would have nothing left to bid on. :D

Thanks for the quick responses, guys! I did go ahead and bid on it. Yeah, the price is probably slightly higher than the set is worth, but as bitrate said, it helps that these were games I was looking for. I've been searching for a 3DO for months now, and before this every listing I looked at either came with a handful of games but at most one that I wanted, or came with a ton of games, which would bring on bidding wars(plus, what do I do with the 23 games I don't want?).

This way I get two games I was looking for without having to fork over in the realm of $200, and while I wasn't looking for Return Fire or Icebreaker, they're games I'd at least like to try.

And any which way, finally having a 3DO just plain rocks. :D Can't wait for it to arrive. Any suggestions on which game I should pop in first?

Well I'm not saying you got ripped off or anything, I was just giving you my point of view. Oh and if you can believe it or not bitrate, I actually do add ", -rare" to my searches when I'm looking for something that isn't rare. I get crazy like that sometimes. :D

Yeah, definitely more than it's worth if you ask me. Regardless, if you are looking forward to getting the system, having fun with it is what counts and those are some good games to start with.

Yeah, my post was a response to my own inner doubts as much as to anything posted by anyone else.

Well, I've got a problem. The 3DO came in the mail an hour before my leaving on a short trip, so I thought I'd just see if the drive door works.

I plug it in, not realizing that the power button is in the "on" position, and the unit starts making a high-pitched whining. I've never seen a 3DO in the flesh before, so for all I know this is normal, but it definitely doesn't sound good. After turning it off and back on again, only to get the same whining, I try the "open/close" button.

Nothing. I try quick presses, holding it down, but the 3DO shows as much reaction as if I were tapping the granite-style top. Uh oh. With no time to examine further, I leave for my trip. On my return, I try hooking it up to the TV and hoping the first try was a freak incident. Still no action from the drive door, and no audio or visual comes through on the TV.

Any diagnoses? Keep in my mind my lack of familiarity with the 3DO, so this could be something as obvious as the need to replace the Sega Saturn's internal battery or to clean the contacts on an NES cartridge.

Never mind; the problem's solved. I don't know how it got solved, but the unit's working fine now. I'm ready to play some 3DO!

Late response perhaps, and maybe abit obvious or unecessary, but do keep an eye on that unit.. That sound does not sound healthy at all. that said, i have 3 3DO units (z1 pal, z10 ntsc-us, sanyo), and only 1 has failed me, the Sanyo. People here have suggested it probably is the ribbon connectors that needs adjusting, but ive tried my best and it still wont work..

So id say if you dont hear that sound anymore, it mightve been coincidental, since the z1 has a pretty good track record. But do keep an eye out.. or ear as it were.
