Syndicate on the 3DO-is it a good port?...

Compared to the other home console ports, like the Jaguar and the Sega Genesis. I mean, good in terms of it's frame rate and it's controls.

I sunk a ton of hours into syndicate back in the day. I actually bought this at a store during the 3do's lifetime.

The port is solid. If you read a review that says it plays slow, that is just how the game is. The PC version is probably best, but i think it lacked the CG scenes.

The controls take a bit to get used to. We lack buttons on the 3DO, and it really shows with this game. Once you get used to it, it handles fine.

Well, I can play Star Fighter just fine with the 3DO controller. This video is supposed to be one of the Syndicate on the 3DO-but as you can see, a viewer says that it's not the 3DO port:

cracked open my Jag version to compare.

The sound and CG is better on the 3DO.
The Jag controller actually helps a little bit here with it's little button matrix, but the sound is not as good. Seems to run a little smoother on jag as well.

I could not imagine playing this on a 16bit console. that would be scary.

I'm curious if all the content is on the jag since it uses the cart format. If everything is there, I would give a slight nod to the Jag version.

edit: ok, toyed around a little more and the Jag version is definitely better. You can zoom in and out which is completely unique to this version ...AFAIK.

The Jag version isn't edited in any way, is it?

I'm assuming they cut out or dumbed down the sound to make it fit on the cart. And I doubt it has all the CG cut scenes from CD versions.

Jag +
Smoother Scrolling
Zoom
More buttons

Does anyone share the opinion that "Cannon Fodder" is just
a parody of "Syndicate"?

The perspective, the sprites, the cross-hair mousepointer, ...etc?

Actually I always liked Cannon Fodder better - even the 3DO
version, though it's just a simple port of the PC game.

I never managed to get into either Cannon Fodder or Syndicate on the 3DO. I played them both to death on the Amiga but the Dpad implementation never worked for me on the 3DO.

I love Cannon Fodder for the Jag.

The dpad is indeed a bit clumsy for those games.
Wasn't there also support for the 3DO mouse?
And... if I used a SNES pad adapter, could I also use the SNES mouse?

A SNES mouse wouldn't work on a 3DO, even for a 3DO mouse supported game.

I know I compared the two ports after I got it for the 3DO. I really can't recall much of the differences. The audio was better on the 3DO but that's a given considering it's cart vs CD. It is easier to play on Jag simply because all your actions are right there on the controller as their own button.
