iron soldier - again
This game really is amazing. It's so next generation for its age. Why didn't it do better? There was nothing quite like it. I've been playing it for a feature in 3do magazine I'm making, and so much of this gameis right. The previews made this game exciting, the visuals made this game exciting and the delivery was spot on[/img]

Iron soldier is fun, I reckon a 3DO version using a textured graphics engine like in Starfighter would work a treat

The game was popular enough to span a couple of sequels. I picked up part 2 as part of a trade (I no longer have my jag cd unit to play it sadly) I've always wondered about the 3rd one. Didn't it release late in the life of the Psx?

Indeed. Released in 2000 according in Wikipedia. Was also made for the Nuon.Trev wrote:The game was popular enough to span a couple of sequels. I still reckon that a 2011 version of this would be nothing short of brilliant.
I have a nagging doubt it would have stretched the 3DO to have done Iron Soldier.Scarlettkitten wrote:Iron soldier is fun, I reckon a 3DO version using a textured graphics engine like in Starfighter would work a treat

The most polygon rich games were stuff liked PO'ed and Dr Hauzer. For these, I believe, the 3DO is pulling out all the stops. I think to have done the the exploding building and to have texture mapped them, is more than the 3DO could have handled.
My honest opinion is that the Jags custom hardware, at worst, could crunch numbers like a pro, the 3DO on the other hand was weaker but looked better due to it's cell engines, which weren't geared towards to pure polygons.

No, that would be Daytona USA on the Saturn.3DOKid wrote:I think NFS was a bit of a 3D cheat that might not work in a non-car game but then it might. I believe that at any given moment only a small portion of the NFS world exists.
What would be the most comprable games to IS on the 3DO in terms of polugon crunching power? Bladeforce maybe?

Yeah, I was going to also say Bladeforce. Although that one has the benefit of using a lot of sprites (the main character and his bullets). However, there's still a ton of rendering going on.. at least it looks to be that way.
Star Fighter is the next obvious contender.. Tons of 3D rendering going on with a slightly smoother framerate than DH.

Yeah, the mags were really crap. Especially when they tried that "It isn't really 64 bits" crap. Really showed that they had no idea what they were talking about.Trev wrote:The press (as a rule) wasn't too excited about anything Jaguar. Die Hard Gamefan was an exception (I miss that mag) but the majority weren't too keen on Atari at that point.
Iron Soldier is actually considered one of the top ten games for the Jaguar. Easily one of the most amazing experiences for the system. Saddest part is that the Jaguar never got the expansion CD for Iron Soldier 2, which would have been awesome. Some of the levels were redone in Iron Soldier 3 for the NUON and PSOne system.
This is a stick up! Put all of your 3DO games in the bag and nobody gets hurt!
