Most dissapointing console
After seeing the big lists in the other thread, it's clear that most of us own far too many systems! I'm sure we all have our favorites (obviously 3DO for me) but do you have any that really dissapointed you?
whats yours?
mine is either the 32X add on and the Odyssey2
oh i almost forgot the Atari 5200 as the worst atari system ever made just because of the controllers and where 99% of the games can be found on other systems and better versions also (if you notice my list doesnt have it because i sold off my entire 5200 collection for double what i paid for it and im glad its gone)
32X had horrible cart games none of them i find fun, the only game i liked was Corpse Killer CD 32X'D
the Odyssey2 had horrible controllers and horrible games the only ones i liked was KC Munchkin and Pick axe Pete
ive only bought 3 systems on or within 8 months of launch date 7800, TG-16, Genesis, i got a SNES for $50 from a girlfriends brother about 1 year after it came out

I agree, the 32X was a huge dissapointment! I bought into the hype and got it during the launch window. I thought VR Racing was pretty good, & Star Wars okay, but after that there was very little. Hardly any of the games looked 32 bit to me, and the few that did were not vey deep (Kolibri, Metal Head) I got my 3DO not long afterwards, so I quickly forgot about it. Sega should have skipped this alltogether & just concentrated on Saturn. I think the bitter aftertaste of the 32X hurt both the Saturn & Dreamcast.
The Nuon though takes the cake for me. At least 32X had a few dozen games. The Nuon's game library couldn't even reach double digits! After the hype & long delays, I thought it would have made a better showing. Th only thing that is still noteworthy about the system would be the VLM player & the homebrew games still being made for it. Sadly, my Toshiba player has a very limited VLM (the Jag cd's is so much better) and the homebrew games only work on the other models. So I'm left w/a good dvd player, but a very poor game console.

I only had to pay $30 for my virtual boy (brand new too ) so for me it was a very good deal. The Mario/Wario games are fun, and the system is just so cool & unique. Shame Nintendo dumped it so soon, but at least it didn't discourage them from continuing to try new things (the DS rocks!)
What is it about Xbox that you don't like?

Yeah, I mail-ordered my Virtual Boy after it was essentially dead. I got it from one of those import companies that used to advertise in the back of EGM... Tommo, I think. Or something like that. I think it worked out to $50 for the system, Red Alarm, V-Tetris, and T&E Golf. All boxed/new. I've always wanted to pick up more games for it, but never seem to get around to it.
Anyway, as far as the Xbox goes... I think it has a really generic, uninspired game line-up. It's pretty short on creativity. I'm also not a big fan of FPSes, sports games, realistic racing games, or GTA style games.
Panzer Dragoon Orta and Crimson Skies were great, though. And it has the best version of Psychonauts, so not all is lost. I guess it's a decent system for playing multiplatform games, too. It usually got the best versions. I just wish 90% of its games weren't so bland.

Are you being sarcastic? I could understand N64 if you had listed 3rd party ports, but your choices are all 1st/2nd party exclusives! I'm amazed you didn't love Mario 64 or Kart 64 ... they are 2 of my favorites of all time! Can I ask what you don't like about them? The N64.
Super Mario World. Mario Golf. MarioKart 64. Ocarina of Time. GoldenEye.
... and a few hundred other titles I'll never, ever play again.
I can honestly say that I've never had a console that disappointed!
Spectrum was my first which I loved to bits, moved onto the Master System then Megadrive. Followed by an Amiga and dived into PC CD-ROM. Took a break then got back into games after the PlayStation was well and truly mainstream and the rest is history.

Yes. Good games, and there were more, but nothing that I'm going to look at 10 years from now and think, Gosh, I've got to go find that cart on eBay!Mobius wrote:Wave Race? Blast Corps? Paper Mario? Many of the good games were also forgettable and don't hold a lot of replay value. Make more sense?
I mean, I can sit down today and play Super Mario World or Mario Kart 64 or Ocarina and be OK with it, but in all honesty of all the consoles and games I own now (and ever owned in the past), the N64 is the one I played the least. I wanted to play it, I really wanted to like the system, but there just wasn't that much compelling stuff out there that made me say, "Yeah, I'll blow off the weekend to play this instead."

Hm, considering I did just that to get Paper Mario, and I still love Wave Race and F-Zero X and play them fairly regularly, I guess we're just on different wavelengths.Dryden wrote:Yes. has anyone tried Aero Gauge for the N64?
i love the way you can fly up on the sides of things and its pretty fast moving, i remember playing it at gamestop and then i had to have a copy, but i wasnt gonna pay their $40 loose price for it, so i got it online for $20 new

Hmm, this is a fairly difficult question as I really am the kind of gamer that really loves certain things about all consoles. I can say I was dissapointed with the 3DO and CD-i when they launched because I wanted them and they were damn expensive. Shelled out the money for a 3DO though. Fun, but it hurt.
Here's a list and why they suck.
The Sega CD 2. Just love the look of the original unit and hate the pop top on it as it just sucks. The system crashes alot too.
32-X. I like the system and have fun with it and all, but not enough games in the end.
I HATE THE PSP, PS2 and PS3. These three systems easily have to be the worst consoles of all time. The PS3 is nowhere worth what they are selling it for. The PSP is a pixel death mess with mainly crappy games. The PS2 is just garbage. Yes, it has some good games, but whats the poin t when the system is going to die in a year and you have to go out and buy one all over again? Shit, and don't get me started on the PS2 hard drive, that was a joke if I've ever seen one.
The N64 pissed me off also. Mind you, I have games that I love on the system like Jet Force Gemini and Shadowgate, but unlike most of the masses, I hated Goldeneye. Doom 64 was a better game for me to be honest.
Last, but not least, the M2. Kills me every time because I wanted this system so bad. It really hurt bad when it didn't release. I remember the E3 videos too, I drooled over it. D2 and that racing game, god I wanted that thing. Dissapointment because it never released.

This is a stick up! Put all of your 3DO games in the bag and nobody gets hurt!
Now, now... The PS2 isn't so bad. There are a lot of really crappy and generic games for it, but there are also a good selection of real gems. And my launch-day system is still trucking along.
I was really disappointed in it when it first came out, since I didn't feel like it even matched up to the Dreamcast at the time. Over time, though, it built up a solid library. I don't think anyone who bought it right now would consider it a disappointment, considering all the good budget gaming to be had on it.
But yeah, it pretty much blew for the first year.

You guys must have Mutant PS2 systems man. On my second system death, I was done, and I know how to fix these things too, but the motors burn out way too easy on the PS2. I however, have had no problems with my XBOX or Gamecube systems. Funny how that works out.

Same here, playstations are poorly made and with crappy games. I only have one to avoid taking out of the box my naomi to play virtua fighter 4 (not that its the same, but close )

PS2 was alright. I have happy memories.
GX4000 by Amstrad is my most disappointing. Nearly as disappointing as French TV. Channel 3. Right Now. It's one of the minor celebrity quasi chat show, game show things. Everyone has been answering questions and then for reason I don't really understand, dancing. Trust me when I say the woman at position 3 needs to dance but so far hasn't. And so far the big Nigerian chap keeps bloody dancing. A couple of women in the audience need to dance too - but that's even less likely.
20 Channels of utter rubbish. At least in the UK we only have 5 channels of utter rubbish. (and half a million channels of cable utter rubbish!)
...oh no, the old grey hair guy is dancing... (Curses!)

The PS2, Bought mine close to release, It didnt live up to the hype and my dreamcast seemed to have better titles @ the time. Apart from that, Bleem did a better job at enhancing psone titles which just didnt make sense. Sure theres lots of good ps2 games now, but at release time you'd be better off with a DC
