Glitchy Cowboy Casino

Post by Trev » Sun Mar 30, 2008 11:58 pm

I've never had any troubles w/this game until recently.

My three main problems are ...

1 - My player will fold hands at random without my prompt (this is especially annoying when I have a good hand :x )

2 - Players that I have eliminated will return w/a miniscule amount of money, and I will be unable to remove them form the table.

3 - The cursor will jump all over the place in the settings menu. I have to go very slow to make any changes.

Has anyone else ever had trouble w/this game? Any ideas? (the cd appears to be in fine shape)

Dunno about #2, but #1 and 3 kinda sound like a bad controller. Have you tried other controllers?

I did go ahead and try it w/both my Panasonic pad & my Goldstar one. Same problems w/both. :(

I noticed the automatic folding of a hand happens usually when another player has been eliminated (not sure if this means anything). Plus, in addition to these problems, the game has begun to bid w/out my prompt (not the ante either, the opening bid)

I simply can't understand what is going on. The game has no scratches, and has never acted up before. And I am not having problems w/any other games.

Does it have a game save file?

Not that I'm aware of. If so, I haven't used it.

I have partially confirmed this glitch. As you suggested, it is clearly tied to another player being eliminated; it first happened just two hands after the first player was eliminated. It happened to me in about 40% of the remaining hands, and every time it happened was immediately after I was forced to make an opening bet. Which is really weird, since normally you're never allowed to fold at that point.

Two caveats, though. One, it only seems to happen with Texas Hold 'Em. I played all three other games extensively after that first elimination, and encountered no problems with any of them. Two, the glitch seems to change after further players are eliminated. I went back to Texas Hold 'Em once I was down to just one opponent, and after this I was never forced to fold or make an opening bet. Instead, on every single hand, my opponent immediately folded.

Haven't seen any sign of the other two glitches yet. Will keep an eye out. It is curious that Cowboy Casino has such problematic glitches and shortcomings (e.g. no save file), while in certain areas there's an impressive attention to detail. Did you know that the game actually has a screen saver? It's nothing new, just a rolling of the credits, but a screen saver nonetheless. The only other 3DO game with a screen saver that I can think of is Gex. Yet no save file. Bizarre.

Thats good to know. I haven't played this game in ages (last time might have been when I made this thread) but I might pop it in again and see if I can get a fresh take on some of its quirks.
