Hi everyone. I am a huge 3DO fan and still actively look to expand my collection with enthusiasm. It was the first console that was bought for me, as I was far too young to have a job at the time upon its release. LOL! :D

I remember seeing my dad playing a game on the Amiga when I was only two or three years old and I have been playing games ever since.

Thanks for allowing me to be part of the 3DO community! :D

Hello! I don't even own a 3DO yet, but I am planning on picking up an FZ-1 at some point in the next couple of months via ebay.

I like older games. I have a substantial dreamcast collection, and just bought a Sega Saturn to check out some of the games I never played in the mid 90s (PSX was my first and only console until 2001).

I do have a slight history with the 3DO - I was a child at an electronics store when 3DO was completely brand new. Without knowing anything about the system or its capabilities or the fact that a new system was even coming out, I saw the 3DO kiosk and was completely amazed at the game (Crash n Burn) that I saw on the screen. Especially in the pre-PSX days, 3D games of any type were pretty rare, so Crash n Burn's in your face colorful graphics, steep sloping tracks, and the awesome CD music just completely blew me away - to say nothing about the fact that this was one of the first games I'd ever seen that combined my childhood interests in racing fast cars and shooting stuff :)

I tried begging my dad for one, and he even inquired as to how much they cost - but when the store unflinchingly told him $799 (in front of me), I knew there was just no conceivable way I would ever play this system. No kid I knew growing up ever had one, and to date, I have never met anyone in real life to my knowledge who owns one.

Nevertheless, that small experience really made an impression on me, and as I explore more 1990s games and having already acquired a couple items that were higher on my "want to try" list (such as the sega saturn), I'm increasingly inclined to take the chance on a 3DO - particularly the FZ-1 model because it looks extremely classy.

I've been researching everything about the 3DO, its history, and its game library, reading articles and reviews for a few months, and I'll probably be hitting the forum up for opinions and suggestions when I decide to ultimately put down the cash. So I'll save my questions for another thread. In the meantime, I'm glad to have found this place. I've lurked for a little bit and everyone here seems positive and non-trollish :)

Thanks for joining dark. If only more lurkers would follow suit. You are right, the FZ-1 is a very classy model. Hope you are able to pick one up soon. :)

Welcome aboard, Dark! Nice to see another Saturn player; I got mine back when it was still on the market and have loved it ever since. The 3DO is a great system to "go back to", since the games library is quite unique but not many of us heard of it back in the day, and fewer still could buy one.

Welcome to the forums Dark. You have done the right thing researching the systems etc well before contemplating a purchase, as the 3DO isnt for everyone. The FZ-1 is a fine choice, but id suggest you look into the FZ-10 as well, as you might already know, its more convenient to browse the memory manager with, as the FZ-1 doesnt even have one (you must use a game or demo disc with a manager on it), and in my opinion it looks much better with the VCD adapter if you ever wanna get one of those. Either machine is a great choice though.

Since you are completely new to the console, try finding a retro game shop in your area, or check classifieds for a good bundle with working console, controllers, all the hookups and the games. Ebay-prices are misleading and you pay too much for bundles on there i reckon. Good luck with your hunt.

Thank you for the advice Grimm. Oddly enough, the retro game shops near me have vastly inflated prices that are at least 2X the price of similar items on ebay. This is possibly because they buy stock on ebay and try to resell it at their shops.

I've searched completed auctions in the US (Where I'm based) for 3DO systems, and I think I can get a reasonable deal for what I'm looking for if I take some time to watch what comes up. My decision to go for an FZ-1 over an FZ-10 is almost entirely down to cosmetics. I think the shape of the FZ-1 and its tray loading drive looks super cool and unusual (even more so than the Goldstar imo), while the FZ-10 a little more basic in design. Clearly there might be tradeoffs in terms of durability and the memory manager aspect, but those don't seem insurmountable, and imo would be outweighed by the delight I have in looking at my TV and seeing the FZ-1's design underneath :D

ps: I might be a little bit crazy

Welcome to a forum!
よろしくお願いします!
I like the design of FZ-1 which carried out a form like the Parthenon shrine too .
but It is a difficult point that some weight is heavy. :D
Because I make a note using translation software, I think that it becomes a poor English sentence.
I'm sorry.

Hi! Didnt see this sticky at first. Am also JagChris from Jaguar Sector II. Very excited to join here and begin enjoying my very first 3do that I've wanted for years. I even got the classic FZ-1 model. I know they come in a few different styles but the one I have is for some reason the image I think of when I think of 3do.

I'm really happy with this. This is going to be fun.

3DO Zone MEMBERS...
I've been observing this place from the shadows for some time now, and felt it was time to step forward and get involved in some 3DO-rich discussion!

From what I have seen, there are probably quite a few members already here who'll know me from either JS2, SS:UK, NGFL or NG.COM.

Looking forward to getting acquainted with the guys here I don't already know and sharing/disputing some opinions on 3DO gaming and beyond.

EDIT: time to go hit up some old threads like a good little newby...

Yep, just been taking in so many hours at work that I've had to limit myself to one gaming forum for the time being. Since right now I'm playing on my 3DO more than my Saturn, this was the natural choice. I'll be back to the Saturn forums, though... Just the other day I realized I wrote a review for Area 51 ages ago and never posted it!

Hi! I just got my collection back and I am again on the hunt to grow my collection!

So I thought joining this forum would be a good idea.

Here is a quick couple pics of my collection:

Howdy folks though should say hi as I have posted in a few other topics and not yet said hello properly (someone help me with my alone in dark/Japanese FZ-1 query please!)

I am a big game fan and own lots of systems. My main focus is Nintendo 64 and saturn but I have jaguar snes/super famicom plus lots of other stuff..... recently got my fz1 from Japan. Aesthetically they did nail it 8)
