3DO Hidden Gems

Post by Trev » Mon Jul 18, 2011 6:01 pm

Some games get lots of talk & respect ... Need for Speed, Street Fighter II, Wing Commander III, etc ... Others, for whaterver reason, don't get too much chat ... althought they are still good if not great. What are some 3DO games that deserve more mention?

I nominate Olympic Summer Games. It is overlooked perhaps because it was such a late release, or perhaps because it was also ported to other machines. But I think it's a really fun game. It's got more variety than you might think, and the multiplayer options are nice. Great animation too! Anyone looking for a good competitive atmosphere will have fun w/this game, which sits nicely alongside 3DO's other great (and more well known) sports games. :D

Ahh, now there is a game that I rarely hear about.

Although I've never gotten too far in it, I've always liked the idea behind it, as well as the atmosphere.

No, no no.. I was being completely serious.

Being even more serious, I'd have to say Trip'd is a hidden gem. Not so hidden maybe, but it doesn't get a lot of talk and it's good.

What is Cyberdildo? :D

I know I recently make a topic about this but the Tetsujin games are awesome. Truly underrated!

My vote would be Trip'd, which someone already said.

I also had Olympic Summer Games, I thought I was the only one! I didn't think it was all that good, though. I remember many of the events required mashing buttons, and that in fencing there was a real cheap unblockable lunge move by pressing something like Back+A that won the match every time.

This is a fun bomber man like game with water for the 3do and ps1.
I was hoping someone could help me figure out the items.

This game has come up in a few threads, one of them taught me how to play it.

The hiddenest of all hidden gems is Dr Hauzer.

But it depends how you look at things. Shock Wave 2 is an astonishingly good game but you never hear the people on more generic retro gaming sites mention it. A more sedate game would be Snow Job, a next-gen point and click adventure.

I definitely agree w/Snow Job ... had the game not been a 3DO exclusive, I bet it would have gotten a lot of praise.

Yeah, Trip'd is pretty good.
Unfortunately, 1P solo Trip'd is almost coma-inducing. As soon as it starts getting intense, you move up a level, the bottom rows are eliminated, and everything slows back down.

Like Return Fire, Twisted, etc ... Trip'd really does hit its stride in 2 player mode.

I know we said the 'naughty' games don't count but firstly twinkle knights is addictive, and virtual cameraman 1 is psychologically scaring.

twinkle knights is actually a challenge. Challenge enough for me not to care whether she was putting clothes on or not - I just want to win.

And virtual Cameraman, the girls wink and nod as to when to take a picture, so eventually you zone out of their nudity and focus in on their faces. Did she wink? Didn't she? Was that a nod? ...oh she's naked...
