3DO firsts?

Post by Doskias » Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:25 pm

What were some of the technical and/or software console-firsts that had their genesis on the 3DO?

Off the top of my head (correct me if these are incorrect):

-First to provide a visualizer when playing music.
-First to have daisy-chaining with controllers.
-First to have a headphone jack on controllers.
-First to have onboard memory for game saves.

LOL I completely forgot about that! Didn't they make three of those? I think X-Man was by someone else.

yeah X-man was made by Universal Gamex and it was the only game they made

atari itself never made these, here are the names of those dirty games
Mystique games:
Bachelor Party
Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em
Custers Revenge

names of playaround games:
Bachelor Party/Gigolo
Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em/Lady in Wading
Jungle Fever/Knight on the Town
Philly Flasher/Cathouse Blues
Bachelorette Party/Burning Desire

quote from atariage
Mystique stirred quite a bit of controversy when they announced their games - they were to be marketed as "adult" titles with nudity and mature themes. They created three titles, but may have bitten off more than they could chew when groups such as Women Against Pornography protested their software. Many retailers refused to carry their games, and eventually they sold the rights to Playaround who repackaged them and sold them under the Playaround name

- First console that supports hardware texture mapping.

- First console that supports realtime surround (Pro-Logic) processing.

- First console with a fan.

- First console where games were born that later became a highly
successful series on the Windows-PC. (Need for Speed)

- First console with 2 expansion ports.

- First console with an external memory unit. (As long as the PCMCIA
cards for the NeoGeo don't count.)

- First console with up to 7 controllers connectable.

- First (and only) console, Sid Meier made an exclusive production for.

sega cd and the turbo cd rom had an option for external memory.

1st to not have a built in memory manager.

Hmm, I thought about this as well...
But I think the Commodore CD32 was the first region free console.
Correct me, if I'm wrong...?

I don't believe the CVS/2600 had a lockout chip of any kind.

If we are counting add-ons, the Turbo CD doesn't have a region lock. Nor does the Sega CD, IIRC, on most of the games.
