3DO Games you've spent the most time playing.

Post by 3DOKid » Thu May 26, 2011 4:44 pm

I know there are loved games and favourite games, but which games on the 3DO have you spent the most time on?

I love WCIII but have only played it about 6 times. On the other hand Novastorm, a pretty mediocre game, I've spent days and days playing.

NFS must also be up there but then so must Burning Soldier.

...and you?

Having only just bought my 3DOs again after all these years, I'll go by what I spent the most time playing when I originally had it back as a teen, and my answer would definitely be WCIII as well. I LOVED that game!

Back then it was so far ahead of its time, it just amazed me and anyone that saw it running on the TV, it's one I'll definitely be adding to my collection this time around too.

I've just been speaking to two old friends of mine on Facebook when I added the photo of my 3DOs, they're brothers and back in the day every Saturday night would be WCIII night. We'd each take an hour at a time to advance our own games, while being surrounded by enough soft drinks and chocolate cake to see us through to the small hours. And even though we'd be seeing parts we'd already seen when we took over from each other, we still sat there and watched every minute.

Ah those were the days.... ;)

The major addictions in college (I was a late adopter, paying $150 for anew unit) were the game shows and Battlesport. But the main single player obsession late at night was definitely Star Fighter.

Freeform maps AND deformable terrain on the 3DO. It made it look like every other dev had their thumbs up their ass. It was fun and had a crazy amount of missions, too.

Shockwave II
Fifa
Return Fire

I still whip out Fifa sometimes. I like the classic gameplay with 3DO enchancements.

Oddly enough, I played a lot of Bust A Move too.

On my borrowed system and limited library in the Nineties I mostly played NFS. My brother and I would compete for the longest, most extreme car crashes and replay them for each other.

I just got back into the 3DO again with a FZ-10 two weeks ago and I've stuck mostly to light, pick-up-and-play games so far, including:
Wolfenstein (plays better than Doom)
Family Feud (with my old lady)
and
NFS and Star Wars (having fun with my new Flight Stick Pro).

I'll bust into Slayer and Guardian War when I get caught up with work in a couple weeks.

Alone in the Dark, Out of This World, Wolfenstein 3D, Escape From Monster Manner, Icebreaker, Bladeforce (although I still to this day cannot get past stage 3). Those are all ones I've put a good bit of time into.

First one was the best. ;)

Joking aside, there is an insane addictive quality to these games, where you almost begin to not notice what's happening on the screen.

Never heard of those camerman games... but I see Star Control II getting a few mentions. I remember it being on my wanted list, but being at school back then meant I had to rely on birthdays and Christmas for games and never got around to getting that game. Maybe now, finally.... :D

i bought 3DO for Dragon's Lair...was there a scene missing from the original arcade version? i thought there was a "burning rope" bit in it or am i confusing No.1 with No.2?

I could complete No.1 with my 3 year old kid sitting on my lap, he loved it!! :D

Daedalus Encounter was coooool man...there is a Wacky Races 2 on 3DO!?!

I believe both Dragon's Lair and Space Ace had cut material in the CD-ROM days, at least on the 3DO. I had the initial CD PC release of DL and it felt incomplete.

Need to add to my list:

Return Fire

Star Control II

Road Rash

It's pricey. The internet flebayers have seen as TEH R@RE and TEH Loved so it can silly money. And by silly I mean £20.

I had the demo of Dragon's Lair and I could never bloody well figure out what to do! Very much trial and error was the impression I got - random button or d-pad presses... or was my teen brain just a bit baffled?

Not too bad compared to the prices I've seen for some other games out there! I can see the 3DO becoming my main hobby and gaming platform for a good long time :D so I honestly don't mind paying a bit more, because if it wasn't 3DO games I'd just be out buying Wii games for more money! But don't tell eBay! They'll see me coming if you do! ;)

gonna have to add BladeForce and StarFighter to my hit list too. One of the StarFighter game sound backing track tunes made me want to commit suicide though...

Can't remember if I ever played Starfighter... was there a demo of it on a Sample Disc or 3DO Magazine coverdisc?

I'll add it to the (ever growing) wish list. Although from what I've read I'll be adding it in at the very top of the list!

Like in old 2600 games ... if the score gets high enough it flips back and starts over.

Pacman did that on 2600. How do I know? My parents spent all night playing it to find out what would happen. And with bleary eye's they told me the next morning.

my parents hated video games. i remember having to bribe my lil sister with an ice cream so i could play space invaders when my folks would send us down to the local corner shop on weekends to buy the morning papers.

the game was still 20 cents a pop back then and galaga had not even come out yet.

Let's not forget Missile Command ;)

And I haven't seen Bueller in so long... I need to watch it soon so Matthew Broderick can redeem himself in my eyes, as I've yet to forgive anyone involved with Godzilla.
