Recommend a movie - to a friend!
I watch a lot of films. A lot. And I've seen a few recently you should watch. IMHO obviously.
- Cloverfield.
The characters the actors play are irritating to begin with, but it gets there in the end, and it's actually quite enjoyable. It's a take on War of the Worlds.
- Rinjin 13 go (Neighbour Number 13) Japanese film. (subtitled)
IMDB seems at pains to explain the movie - but it's easy. Inside each of us is a demon, that most of us keep in check. The demon being created by things in our past. "Rinjin 13 go" is about loosing control of the demon in a very real sense. It's actually an awesome film. For a Japanese movie it has a happy ending too. (Which makes it culturally odd)
- À l'intérieur. The Insider. French splatter film. (subtitled)
Wow. Just when you go "f**k!" "No" "Stop", this splatter movie carries on. Awesome. You have to have guts like iron to watch mind you.
- Beowulf. This was actually really good. As soon as you stop trying to guess who the 3D animated characters are based on.
- Things to come. Oldy-goldy by HGWells. His view of the future. nicely predicted WorldWarII and in some ways this film is awesome. If they made it today, it would be chopped and edited to high-heaven, but these days it can be downloaded, legally, free from the web. It is worth it.
...and I watched E.T. tonight. And it's still aces. you have to be in the right frame of mind i guess mind you.
So, come on, recommend me do!

The warriors is a great film, "Warriors, come out and playay" Excellent stuff. Just rented the original last week.
Just watched Kalifornia again, it's a bred pitt film worth seeing.
I also recomend Deliverance,,, Gritty spooky redneck, Imho this film doesnt show it's age
For modern films, the counterfeiters was ok, not much else been on recently

This statement alone means your word mean nothingTrev wrote:For other new movies, Indiana Jone's latest is great for fans of the original.
The new Indiana Jones sucked in comparison to the original three, the beginning and ending were completely rushed, and I mean by rushed that they just wanted to finish the film. Made the commies look like p*$$yies which they werent and the plot was laughable at best. Im a true indy fan and I was highly disappointed
I dont know about Cloverfield since I didnt see it, it might be good but when I saw the trailer and it said....."From the same people who brought you Independence Day and Armageddon" I kinda got turned off by the movie right then...

I thought Indiana was OK.
The Ancient Astronauts plot doesn't crop up too often. I used to be really into this kind of thing: Crystal Skulls, elongated skulls, Nazca lines, cargo cults, god was a UFO, that sort of thing.
The new Indiana movie was done pretty well.
Old Spielberg really must have chewed through the mountains of guff on the Ancient Astronaut topic and South America to pull out a few choice bit's for the movie. I think he did well. However, he did miss one thing which I thought might have added a little meat to the bones ( for the record, I'm not the ancient astronaut nut I used to be, and most (99%) of what is out there is indeed rubbish)
However:
Akhenaten (some sort of precursor to Moses in his one god belief) wanted himself depicted in this way:
Note the elongated skull. Weird eh?

Death of a Salesman - by Volker Schlöndorff.
http://www.amazon.com/Death-Salesman-Pr ... B00007ELDP
I have never seen a movie with such a absolut perfect acting - like real life. The locations / walls / bg's are just like in a surreal theatre. Watch them closely - they don't even have connected corners. Dustin Hoffman plays the old man so perfect and natural, so intense - you can't believe it. A failure in life, with symptons of dementia. We, the viewers are all frightened when watching him, the old man, in this masterwork, 'cause we all can end easily like this. One of the most important and best movies in human history. The Making Of on the DVD shows the author of the novel himself at the set: Arthur Miller. He advices the actors and the director. The Making Of is one of the greatest I have ever seen, the effort and acting in this adaption of Millers novel is outstanding. Can't describe it. It's a 3D version of Edward Hoppers paintings - one of the greatest artists ever.

Ok, Ive been to Egypt and spent a year there. That elongated head is a rare condition but a natural deformity that exists today. Cher has this problem and also that painfully annoying Schwimmer guy from friends. Anyway, the egyptians found this strange head to be something to bow to, Theres many sculptures and statues in the museum in luxor and further up the river in com ombo? can't remember

I still say it's a hat.
The new Rambo film is pretty good. Watching a senile old Stallone rip and tear guts out in a brainless fashion is always fun.
I also love the dialogue:
"Burma's a war zone."
"Sit down."
"Go home."
I don't think Stallone had anymore lines. My only complaint was that too few Christians were slaughtered.
The new Rambo film is bad, but it's 80s action bad, therefore it's good.

I'll second Malcom Mcdowel and add Donald Sutherland. I've always had a nagging doubt he is insane. And whenever I see him in a movie, he always seems on the brink of proving it.
I mention it because I watched this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120458/
and enjoyed it. Virus, it's about robots on a boat killing people and stuff.
If you liked Aliens, you should enjoy this, if you're waiting with bated breath for another Hugh Grant movie, perhaps less so.

I bought David Cronenberg's STEREO and Crimes of the Future.
http://www.amazon.de/Stereo-Crimes-Futu ... 462&sr=8-1
STEREO is a scientific fiction in black and white scene without music or soundeffects, around an hour long. It is a study of telepathic research and the consequences in human group dynamics - like isolation and suicide. Very clever ideas, it becomes more and more absurd. No effects in the whole movie. Only various male / female voices who read text. The actors behave like in a ballet which makes the movie exotic.
Crimes of the Future is about The House of Skin and their strange scientists. Adrian Tripod is the director of this Institute and researches the houndreds of thousands of deaths of woman, who were infected by cosmetics. People are abstracing strange foam and liquids which can be eaten, but after a while they become toxic. The first one who discovered this illness was Alan Rouge - a scientist who disappeared. Crimes of the Future has very strange camera angles and close ups which make the movie act disturbing. The bg sound is like underwater dolphins having sex. Many parts are silent. At the end Tripod joins a group of perverts.
The whole acting is like in a theatre, because of the strange culture the people in these movies are living in. Crimes is perverted at the end but worth not only watching but also buying. The locations are great because of the stylistic and aseptic ambient / atmosphere. Both movies are art.
