Nintendo Power RIP

The first and last issues sided by side.

I picked this up in the magazine rack because my subscriber issue hasn't come in yet. As you can see my first issue has been well read, I should have gotten a reprint back in the day.

So that's it. I have every issue. The only thing I'm missing is the IronSword poster with Willow map on the opposite side from the Tetris issue of Nov/Dec '89. I've owned three copies of that issue and still don't have that stupid map. If someone has one I have many duplicate issues and would be willing to trade one for it.

Nintendo Power... my first, my last, my everything.

You know why this is? Because Future Publishing (based in Bath, UK) are soul less demons. They keep churning out sodding Edge (Next Gen) which is so boring it makes me cry, but they closed this down (a lot of people seemed to like Nintendo Power) and my personal favourite, C&VG. Which was the oldest games magazine on earth.

I used to buy CVG back in the 90's if i recall, i think it was one of the better magazines out there for people who werent fanboys/girls.

I'll miss Nintendo Power. Even though I liked it much less since they Nintendo stopped publishing in house and went to Future, it was still something I looked forward to each month.

I recently subscribed to Pure Nintendo Magazine, which launched subscriptions via kickstarter. For a new mag it's impressive.

Tis a shame, Nintendo Power was cool :(

CVG was good back in the late 80s early 90s, when I was in my ST phase (which I still seem to be in :).

I started being disappointed two years before Future and almost stopped subscribing but once they handed it over I started enjoying it again. I'll look at Pure Nintendo Magazine.

It's sad to see it go, but the truth is that it should have been axed when Nintendo decided they didn't want to helm the project anymore. Once Future got a hold of it, it didn't feel like Nintendo Power any longer. It was just another run-of-the-mill gaming publication at that point.

Got to love the swan song that is this last issue though. I might pick one up just for that cover. :)

I used to love Nintendo Power back in the SNES days. I would always re-subscribe with one of the cards I would get with a video game to get a free game guide.

That's one of a number of reasons why I hated the move to Future ... the axed the free guides!

Their customer service was lousy too. My most recent hassle is, for the 2nd month in a row, I didn' get my issue in the mail. Their solution? Extend my subscription rather than send me my issue! Looking forward to an extra issue in 2013.

You could just try to insist that they send you the correct issue again.

Supposedly there are none left. That was the official word anyway. I e-mailed them and am waiting for a more detailed reply.

Yeah, same here. No guides on re-subscription and absolutely terrible customer service. Nintendo had great CS, they actually wanted to help, Future's CS's only goal was to get you off the phone.

I also had an issue never show up and got the same BS answer of there not being any extra and only giving me a month extension. And by that time they were gone from the shelves. Lucky for me I have a friend who, at the time, stacked magazine racks and he was able to slip me the issue before they were sent back to the publisher.

I wouldn't even care so much, except it's the last issue! A big gap in my collection. :(

Do you want the last issue? If so I can try and grab you one Friday (going shopping) or Monday (grocery store had one copy left last time). $5.99 in a plastic baggie with a poster of every NP cover.

If yes, e-mail (not pm) me.

Finally got a reply to my e-mail ... had to send it twice! 'Please allow until December 17th for delivery.' :? For a mag that is supposed to go out to subscribers in late November?

At least my wife found a newstand copy for me yesterday.

Glad to hear you got a copy! My subscriber one came in today. Pretty sad when I bought mine on the 8th. I remember a time when I got them 2 months in advance. Now that was a fast printer!

I stopped by Wal-Mart just a few moments ago to pick up some shipping supplies. I ended up snagging two copies of the last issue of NP for myself. One to read, and one to keep sealed (or opening it and seeing if there's some kind of picture frame I can get that will hold it.. Maybe get the original and hang them both side by side on a wall somewhere in my apartment). For six bucks a pop, I couldn't resist snagging a second one..

I plan on reading through the magazine before dozing off tonight. I am looking forward to seeing the poster as well, but since I am getting a Wii-U for Christmas, the news will also be pertinent as well.

Sorry to hear that, for your sake. Demand a refund then? Also, keep your eye on ebay etc. It will come up there soon enough, if only at gouging prices... Still, im positive you can get one there pretty soon. Dont discount the greed of reselling bastards.

Edit: i shouldve read the responses before i replied.. glad you got one at last.

I really wish they had made the poster bigger so the covers were easier to see. The size of the ones from the 50th issue were perfect.

Looking at it closer, I concur. :)
