Apparently the nile supplies all the greenery. They can get three harvests a year round these parts. A quick look at google maps and you can see the green belt it creates.

Yeah in Ancient Egypt the Nile was the life blood of the whole country and I'd always expect the river to produce such lush greenery, I just always had this vision of the city itself being a lot more built up. Instead, it looks lovely!

Actually I did. Kind of. And the haggling drove me nuts. I was chaperoned by Egyptian people so I was protected from much of it, but the whole indirect questioning drove me bananas! HOW MUCH IS IT? Grrrr!!

The pyramids simply astound me! Did you get closer yourself or was it a passing trip? I'm still jealous since we couldn't even get near Cairo in February!
