Real 3DO Player - Android Emulator

Post by klogg » Mon Sep 21, 2015 4:51 pm

I discovered this little program today. Excellent emulation on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, although the controls get a little difficult on a large screen. Now we can "3DO" on the go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ku5AxczQEw

Well, that's pretty cool. Does it support Bluetooth Control Pads? Not a bad idea in the end. I still am sure I'd much prefer the original though. Still cool to see something like this running. Would be pretty cool to see it on one of the set top boxes too like Ouya or Razer Forge TV or even the Amazon Fire...
This is a stick up! Put all of your 3DO games in the bag and nobody gets hurt!

For any of you who have bought this, could you do me a favor and try Road Rash and see how it plays? I know it'll be different for every device, but if the emulator can generally run it decently, I'd totally buy it. But that's really the only game I have an interest playing on the go. So if it doesn't, I'd have no use for it. But 3DO/PC Road Rash on the go? Yes, please!

I bought and I can do a test. I will make a short video and post here, soon.

Awesome! Thank you very, very much. However, don't go out of your way to make a video just for me. I mean, if you're already planning it, that's awesome. But all I really want is just confirmation from some one that it works.

Bought it and tried this out on my Motorola Photon Q. Runs Road Rash pretty well. However it seems to lose detection of button presses after a while. What I mean is, you hold in the accelerator and after about 15 seconds or so, it acts as if you'd moved your thumb off it. It COULD be a problem with my phone specifically, but I've never had that issue with other games. Hopefully once it gets support for other controllers, it won't have this issue. I'd love to play it with my Moga. Also, IIRC there are apps to map touchscreen presses to physical buttons on controllers, so that also may be an option. I might look into that later.

On my Tegra Note tablet it appears to work fine, however on my Samsung S3 I too have the button problem. It appears that it can't detect mutiple presses - so if you hit D-pad to steer, it no longer registers the A, B or C buttons. Also the saves are screwy - sometimes they work, others not?

It's pretty fast though - good enough to play NFS on the train!

A bit offtopic but i believe it is worth mentioning :
4DO has been ported to libretro and is now available on Android through RetroArch as a core.
I have yet to test this though and i don't think it will be faster than Real 3DO Player. (perhaps more accurate though)
On the other hand, it's opensource, unlike this app.

That's cool. I'll test later, then.

I am not a regular user of emulators, so sorry for any noob action. But I downloaded the Retroarch and 4DO core then selected, pointed to the directory and the iso file but nothing happened. Is there any special configuration or ISO format to work? If someone try and achieve this, please explain here how. At first for me the biggest difference is that the Real3DOPlayer was extremely easy and straightforward to use. Although paid.

I was trying it out too. And all manner of confusion ensued.

A simple guide would be very much appreciated ;)
