And the Oscar goes to...

Post by Martin III » Sat Apr 04, 2015 4:51 pm

I don't think this has come up before, despite the wealth of live action video on the 3DO. Basically, who's your favorite 3DO actor?

I considered doing a poll for each game and then putting the winners into this poll, but given the low activity as of late, I think the only chance of getting a significant response is by going right to the main poll. This means I basically had to guess which actors would get the most votes. I also tried to stick with games which originated on the 3DO, though I did slip in one Wing Commander III option, since that game's high reputation among 3DO fans makes it impossible to ignore.

There is an "other" option for any actors I missed, but keep in mind that voice actors don't qualify!

I'm going to take a little time to mull over my own choice, and give someone else the chance to cast the first vote.

First people who always pops into my head when I think of 3DO FMV sequences...

Image

Major Stewart from Shockwave (Marcia Pizzo)

Image

X-Man from Need for Speed (Brennan Baird)... R.I.P. :(

Legendary stuff!

What episode of Deep Space 9 did Brennan Baird play in? I can't find it listed.

ok I found it. He played a Cardassian soldier in a 1996 episode called 'Things past'.

That's awesome. I'll have to rewatch that episode.

Yeah, I should have had someone listed from Shockwave, but I was limited in how many poll options I could choose and since I haven't played the game I wouldn't know which actor to pick.

I totally didn't think of Need for Speed. Probably just because it's different in that it's not "interactive movie" style even though the video is of course done in character (as opposed to stuff like Mathemagics and Dennis Miller: That's News to Me).

Oh well, at least the "Other" option is better than nothing!

My vote goes to the backseat pilot in Sewer Shark. His acting is so over the top it makes me crack up (in a good way). That performance never gets old to me, especially with the combination of the music and sounds in his scenes.

To be fair though, I haven't played many other FMV games on the 3DO.

Lance Boyle was funny, although he reminded me of the lead singer of the B-52's on lots of Caffeine or some other upper that would make him crazy!

Yeah... In retrospect, it was really dumb for me to do this topic in poll form. Just way too many good candidates for people to choose from, and the crummy job I did of anticipating the biggest vote-getters didn't help. Oh well, not a big deal.

Since I didn't say before, my pick is Kevin Breznahan. Besides the quality of his acting, I just find him so utterly likable for whatever reasons, and that's a big contributor to the level of fun I have playing Psychic Detective.
