E*B*A*Y time to forgive.

Yes, it's evil. But is it time to allow E*B*A*Y links and the word itself without replacing it with the word EVIL?

I personally have no gripe with the company but...

I put 'éBay is ok'. It's not really. Even saying that sentence via the tactility of my keyboard and hands leaves me feeling a little unwashed.

However, I feel the use of the word éBay is... ok :)

Yeah, its fine. For better or worse, Ebay has become something of a necessary evil when it comes to video game collecting.

As long as we don't get flooded with one time spammers posting links to their overpriced auctions, I've no serious issues with it.

Ebay is evil, but I would rather have the name changed back in this system. If one of us posts an ebay link, it gets changed to evilbay and the link becomes broken.

Okay. So eBay is evil, and will always be evil, but it's an evil we can live with? (like me)

I wouldn't say eBay is the culprit, it's the sellers. There are some decent sellers, but there are some bad apples out there.

And now we have Game Gavel as an alternative, so if game buying-and-selling there proves to be bad as well, we'd have to call them both evil.

Game Gavel is US only, is it?

I don't think so. The format includes a listing for international shipping, and right now there's a seller in Japan selling 3DO games through Game Gavel.

This is an...um, interesting thread. I have my beefs with some of ebay's policies(not being able to leave negs as a seller, non-paying bidders only getting a slap on the wrist, etc.) but without ebay as a whole my collection would be a whole lot smaller, particularly for 3DO import games.

Ebay is OK. Experienced users know how to sift through the BS.

You have to wait for someone to actually post an auction if you want rare titles. The BIN are all 200-500% inflated.
But I've nabbed complete Star Control II's for $30-$40 over the last year, while all the BIN are near or over $100.

Set up some watches, be patient, and don't overpay.

Is it ok to post links to Ebay auctions now? If so, where?
We've been doing it for a while in the M2 section, so I'm guessing it's ok?

I've got a meaty 3DO auction I need to advertise.

Is it yours? If so I think you should advertise it in a PM solely to me. 8)

I don't have an issue with eBay personally but I am opposed to links for the same reason they were ended originally. The forums became a target for spamming. Users would come in and just post links to their auctions just to pump up the bids. We still delete these one time posters and their post even with the rules in place. Yes we have been lax in the M2 forum but even that was abused by a scammer.

It doesn't take much to find something on eBay, as soon as I read bitrate's post I found his massive auction in less than a minute, and he didn't even say what it was. We've tried twice to have a marketplace, once to have a suggestive section where links are posted. They failed in a clusterfuck each time. If we want to remove the word filter, fine. If people want to use eBay they know how to do a search on that website. I don't want to see it tearing apart our community again.

Bitrate, can you run that link past the forum admin first?

It's essential I see it before anyone else. For security reasons you understand.

Go to eBay, type "3DO", sort by highest price first, look for a familiar floor.

Bitrate is awesome...if I had the money, I'd snap his auction up (well...I have the money. I'd just like to not lose my wife in the process)
