Panasonic 3DO Station v. 4.0

Post by kesovo » Mon Jan 28, 2013 9:56 am

Hey everybody,

Today, I came across two "3DO Station v. 4.0"'s at a thrift store. I was able to hook them up via an S-video and a normal computer power cable and they booted up fine. Could anybody enlighten me as to what these are and how they are used? Here's a video of one plugged in:

I know this link has been posted in the past, and there has been a thread concerning these kits, but nobody had been able to answer the questions. I've scoured the internet and there is zero information on these. I extend my hand to this community of 3DO'ers in hopes that one of you is in possession of one of these fine machines or can tell me what I need to know about them. I don't understand how to access the system memory (if there is any) and for some reason where the debug screen shows the specs, one unit claims to have 1mb of DRAM, 2 of VRAM; the other 0mb of DRAM, 2 of VRAM. This confuses me considering the system specs for the original 3DO had 2mb of DRAM and 1mb of VRAM, whereas these machines display different specifications.

I hope that somebody in this known universe can educate the internet and I on the origin of these elusive pieces.

Thanks!

P.S. On the debug screen, there's another message at the top that displays: "MAG-DEB 1.5 6/23/93"

Cool! A turbo button!

I don't know a whole lot, but I haven't heard of this. Is it really the development workstation for creating 3DO games? If it is, I would have expected to see a macintosh operating system on it. At least, I know you had to use a macintosh to do any coding. Maybe this is a second machine you'd receive with the whole development package.
