1993 - 2013 History repeating itself?
So, a video game maker / distributor comes to market with a console (built on standards, not hoping to be one) in a market stagnated by tired bloated console makers?
I give you 3DO v2 (steambox)

Only, it's not exciting, not all that interesting, which 3DO definitely was.

It's also making the same mistake the 3DO made. Being WAY overpriced.
$999 for the better model? That's pretty crazy. I guess it doesn't need to sell millions to really be considered a succes simply because there are already millions of pc's out there that can use Steam.
It's a very interesting concept, definately attempting to create a standard much like 3DO did for sure. Definately not as exciting though. I find it interesting that it's running Linux. As one person commented on that link, probably an attempt to steer away from Windows 8

Agreed. There are some cracking looking games on android. Adapted for touch screen. You can plug either a PS3 or Xbox 360 controller into an Android device and they just work. What i found was the 'adapted for touch screen' bit, makes it pointless.sneth wrote:There are quite a few of these devices in the pipeline.
It's all PC based, so they have a chance.
It's the android set top boxes that will i see having issues.
What i want is Android for PC.

I actually backed Ouya on kickstarter, to check out android games for the first time, and not having to settle for a small screen and stuff.
Been told we get our consoles in march, so not too far off now. Android consoles have been popping out everywhere since Ouya got such a high backing ive noticed. I guess time will tell if this is just a fad or not. I kinda like the idea of Ouya being actually encouraged to be hacked and improved upon, and i also like that at they encourage games to be free, with optional buy crap added, rather than just a free demo, even if they will settle for that too. I really hope developers wont see these things as mere money cows like the big console makers do, and that you will actually see a lot of free games you can enjoy without having to pay for absolutely everything if you dont want to. Again, time will tell.
