Dragon Knight III - Knights of Xentar?
Nixzero's 3DO game list includes a reference to "Dragon Knight III - Knights of Xentar". The word "xentar" doesn't show up on a forum search here, but the game is apparently a reasonably well-known eroge that came out in Japan in 1991, and was ported and translated in 1995 for a US DOS release. The same Wikipedia article reports a 3DO release, with no year given, but I haven't found anything else about it.
I don't really see myself playing an eroge, let alone one that I assume is still in Japanese -- but I'm at least curious as to whether this was a real 3DO release, or if this is just typical Internet fiction. Anyone know for sure?

The claim of a Japan-only 3DO version was added to the Wikipedia article in 2008 by a user named Jinnai, but it looks like the rumor goes back further: here's a 3DO game list dated 2004 that has it, for instance.
And aha, here we go -- this 3DO FAQ from 1994 (!) has a list of "software in production" (which is a mix of vaporware and released titles), and there's Dragon Knight III. So I guess this is an old claim and, if the FAQ is correct, there were indeed plans for a port.

So much vapourware - makes me sad

Hey, thanks for your reply. So Dragon Knight III/Knights of Xentar can be definitively removed from any/all lists of released 3DO games, then? That old FAQ makes it sound like there was something planned and/or announced, but I guess it never got anywhere.bitrate wrote:Unfortunately, no. It's on a listing of mine, but I've never happened across any significant information.
Nice, I look forward to reading about it!bitrate wrote:On a related note, however, I did locate another unreleased 3DO title. I'll throw some information up about it in another thread.
Glad I found this thread, I'll make sure to remove this title from the game list I've been working on. I'd found it referenced in quite a few other lists, but I haven't been able to find any concrete proof that it was actually released on the 3DO (box scan, serial number, ROM-dump, etc.).
While it's sad that it never got a 3DO release, I guess I can't be too bummed. Being that it's an eroge game, I doubt I would have played it anyway, but if I did, I'm sure I'd have an easier time finding and playing the US MS-DOS version.
