I wont have too much hope for this. That way, it won't be as much of a let down. It will probably go down like a clone of The Fast And The Furious.

I too will cynically prep myself for a big letdown. I can see it now. Need For Speed: Revved Up, a hot summer blockbuster starring Ashton Kutcher as Max Torque. We'll throw in Michael Cera too, just for lameness's sake.

I thought Tokyo Drift was a NFS movie ;-) It certainly played like a live version - who's imitating who?

I just felt i needed to point out a flaw in that article..

"The series originated almost two decades ago, in 1994. Through changes in gaming trends and game systems over the years (from the 3DO to the 3DS), it has managed to stay true to its arcade gameplay by deliberately shunning the realism of titles like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport to focus on adding as much fun as possible to the outrageous races."

I disagree with that it has "stayed true to its arcade gameplay, by deliberately shunning the realism"... The game STARTED as a fairly realistic street racing game. I feel no "arcade racing" when i play NFS on the 3DO. That came later, when, i dont recall since the last need for speed i played was the run, and the last i recall gameplay from was the Underground series and onward. I cant remember the ones in between the original and U.

So maybe they did go arcade instantly after the first game, but i still feel you cant say such things the article does when the first game DID strive for more realism, than arcade. Anyone with me on this?

Exactly. This tells me that they didn't play the first Need for Speed on the 3DO. They played a port of the 3DO Need for Speed on the Playstation or Saturn, where the game was turned into an arcade-like racer and (at least for me) ruined.

I'm sure thats the case. It isn't really a surprise, but it is dissapointing. As for a movie, I hope it turns out better than many other movies based on games.

It'll have nothing to do with the original 3DO classic we know and love...No cheesy random guy smart-mouthing you, it won't be the same. Probably just an over-glorified CG Car Porn fest. I hate to break to you that way, but it frustrates me to even not automatically debunk it as being crap. Need for Speed, in my opinion, has long slipped into mediocrity among other Racing Games. (Ridge Racer, Gran Turismo, Forza) If there was a reboot of the series solely modeled after the 3DO original I would gladly get into again, but that's not what would make money.

As long as it's better than the Wing Commander or Double Dragon movie, I'll watch the whole thing.

Give me a case of beer and I'll watch all three back to back.

Actually, The Run is more like the 3DO version in that its highway racing (mostly), but it also has more arcade racing like the other games in the series. I dont think its that bad tho, and enjoyed playing it, aside from some frustration in some parts of the race. The backstory didnt interest me, but i got it for the racing anyway.
