Very interesting, I've never seen this before either. That's what's so fun (and sometimes infuriating as a collector) when collecting Japanese titles; just when you think you've seen it all, something new comes along that you've never seen beofre.

Yes, exactly. I've been saying that same thing for years. It reached a point about 5 years ago where I finally just started saying that the Japanese part of my 3DO collection was "complete as far as I know" because every 6 to 12 months I would stumble upon something I had never seen before.

I kinda like how the demo uses one of the early promotional pictures.

AS DISCUSSED EARLIER THIS WEEK...
in this thread: http://cdinteractive.co.uk/3do/forum/vi ... c&start=60

I recently acquired Foes of Ali.

I spent a bit of time with it the other day, and I have to say, it really hasn't grabbed me. Now, I should probably say, I'm more of a 2D-come-3D fighting game fanatic more than any other genre, so this one - being a boxing title - was probably always going to struggle going up against my tastes.

But it's not so much about patience, but I just struggled to get on with the movement, or lack of it. Also, as with many boxing games, I found the action overly-deliberate and a bit slow. I appreciate though, that I am playing on a PAL console.

I'll give it another go this weekend and see how I get on...

Just picked these up:

Burning Soldier because I always thought I had it in my collection, but turns out I didn't. Guardian War because I have the Europen branded 'Powers Kingdom' and wanted this for the sake of completeness. And Rise of the Robots because the seller threw it in with the other two for £2!

Woah... The long box cover for Rise of the Robots is actually pretty slick. For £2, I dare say I might have grabbed it myself, just so it could decorate my shelf.

Have you actually played Burning Soldier?

FUNNY YOU SHOULD...
actually say that, as I really dislike the US artwork for ROTR.

However, by contrast, I really like the UK cover art:

(EDIT: No auto-image scaling on this forum then, lol! :D )

It's funny how they advertise "Full Screen Display" on the box, as if it's some kind of selling point.

I guess for awhile there, particularly on the sega CD, many FMV/pre-rendered games had the reduced size display. Maybe they figured with the pre-rendered graphics, people would have that concern :)

For a PAL release it probably was. Weren't most of the non NTSC games cropped on 3DO?

Lol, yeah it's definitely an eye-catching design. No I haven't played burning soldier, the screenshots on the back look interesting enough but with all of my collection, it goes straight into storage.

Lol +1. I remember so much hype surrounding that game before release, but when I actually got to play it I thought it was pretty terrible, it was like controlling a robot whose batteries were on the way out and submerged in treacle.

Also, the cutscene animations in the Super Nintendo and Genesis versions of Rise are limited to a little rectangle in the center of the screen. So the "Full Screen Display" blurb could also be in consideration of that.

Haha, I sadly have to say I got the SNES version first. Why did I even bother getting it for the 3DO if I knew it was terrible you might ask? Because I got it in a bundle along with games I actually wanted.

ROTR has some nostalgic charm for me. Not as a fighting game mind you, but as an experience. The in game cinemas, the music ... heck, even the history behind it w/all the media hype and such. It reminds me fondly of gaming in the mid 90's. :)

Of course I did like mid 90's fighting games that let you pick more than 1 character.

FROM WHAT I'VE 'SEEN'...
The SNES version looks like, overall, it's the best - most well rounded of them all. Although getting a PC port probably seemed like an advantage at the time, I think in actuality, it's got little charm vs the 16-bit ports. Which, incidentally, I wonder why the Jag never got a port of this game?

WELL I BOUGHT IT RECENTLY...
quite simply off the back that I had always wanted (to play) it - which I had never done until recently, and I too knew how tragic the game was. I think the box art sealed the deal. Even if ROTR is sh*t, it oozed a super cool feel to it way back when - something I still feel it has now (a nostalgic link tbh).

THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE GAME...
that made me rue the day I owned an A500 back in the day and not an A500+ or A600, as RISE couldn't run on anything less than the 500. Glad I didn't trade up for it though!

Well, it was a 1994 game, and for whatever reason, the lion's share of the Jaguar's 3rd party releases came out in 1995. Maybe some 3rd parties were waiting for the Jaguar to reach an installed base of over 100,000, or something?

It is a shame, though... the Jaguar could have used another bad fighting game.

I personally feel they take up too much space but I can definitely see the appeal.
