Gex

Finally played through the Saturn port of this game. The game's scrolling is terrible - I hate having to guess where off-screen obstacles are - but otherwise this certainly has the Crystal Dynamics trademark quality of being maximally challenging but ultimately fair. I love how they use Gex's tail and especially his wall-climbing abilities. And Rez has to be one of the best boss fights I've ever experienced. Was very gratifying when I finally figured out how to hurt him.

Seriously, how is it that everything Crystal Dynamics touches turns to awesome? I really have got to find a good deal for the 3DO so I can check out all their games that didn't get Saturn ports. Heck, I'm even a bit curious to see the 3DO version of Gex.

By the way, anyone know what the deal is with the long, angst-heavy backstory for Gex which appears in the manual? That really weirded me out when I read it.

Yeah, Gex is cool. It's great for the 3DO. Can't attest to the Saturn version though, only the 3DO and PSX versions.. Would like to hear your opinions of it after playing the 3DO version.

I was slammed when I said I recalled the 3DO was better than the Saturn port. I went back & played them. The Saturn one def. has a hand up on the 3DO one in some departments.
Read Which version of Gex stands out above the rest?

Tell me though, what resolution is the Saturn version on and what is the 3DO version on? I have an FZ-10-E console, and its in an interlaced res, i can put this through my Faroudja scaler ( which sees it as 576i ) and make it 576p ( can make it higher, either 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, but it looks the same... ) and on my NEC CRT projector it looks AWESOME on the 3DO version...

I have seen the Saturn version and the PS1 version, but i dont know if they are in 240p or 480i/576i on those consoles...

Be interesting to see how Rayman wouldve looked on the 3DO...

I would have loved to see Rayman on the 3DO too. I heard a rumour that it was destined at one point to the 3DO.

You heard correct. It was shown at an E3. I remember 3 magazine (not nearly as good as the UK 3DO mag) had a blurb talking about it. I've never heard an official line on why it was canned.
