I think my FZ-1 may have died :-(

Post by OfManNotMachine » Tue Apr 05, 2011 6:23 am

So tonight I get from work wanting to play some Space Hulk.

My FZ-1 has never given me a problem and I treat it with the utmost care.

All the sudden my screen goes black and i hear a beep that just repeats over n over.

I turned it off assuming it was just a random game freeze or something. I turn it on 10 seconds later and the console doesnt even boot. Just the same beep repating over n over.

So I decide to unplug it for 5 minutes. Upon pluggin it back in the console boots up just fine. I let the asteroid screen saver run for bout 2 minutes n just observe the console n all seems well.

I open the tray n before I can even set the disc in...poof. Blank screen and beeping.

Has anyone ever encountered this before? If so...any fixes? Or has my FZ-1 dare i say it....passed away :-(

yea, I've never seen anything like it myself. I'm gonna take it apart tonight when I get home from work, power it up n see if I can notice anything odd. Might disconnect a few things n reconnect em. Perhaps something just got loose in there.

I know the bios n stuff has to be in tact, because i was able to get it booted back up once.

This was the first place I knew I could go to hopefully get some insight into the problem. For some insane reason, the 3DO community is a very small one, but hey...that means we're always there for each other right? :)

I still have a spare FZ-1, and I also have an FZ-10

But there's some nostalgic value to this particular FZ-1

It was the one my dad got for me in Christmas of 1994. So I'd hate to see it go out like this
