3DO not working... request help.

Greetings -

Many apologies for being the newbie registrant with a self-involved question.

As for myself, I just turned 30... I am a vintage gamer and have started collecting the systems from my childhood. It is a joy! While I may be a Nintendo fanboy... I appreciate all the consoles and systems that have shaped the gaming world into what it is today. (altho I personally never liked the jump from 2D to 3D) ;-)

So, I purchased a Panasonic 3DO from craigslist, fairly cheap. He said it was working, but had no games or controllers to go with it. An eBay purchase or two later, the CD I try on the system will not read.

I have made a video of what is happening with my system. It is only a minute long. Please take a look! Any advice on what you think is the problem would be greatly appreciated!

Notes about the video:
- from :04-:09, there is a "tick tick tick" sound that my camera sound does not pick up clearly comes from that thing (I'm guessing is the laser) that is bobbing up and down.
- the first attempt at putting a disc in (:15) the disc does not spin.
- the second attempt at putting a disc in (:38) the disc does spin, but does not read.
- every time the drawer closed, there was that same "tick tick tick" noise from the laser bobbing up and down.

Thank you again for your time.

Hmm. Tricky one. At first I thought the CD motor was burned out, but everything is TRYING to read.

Have you tried a music CD in the unit? Testing different items is important, and you don't note whether or not you've done that here. Also, knowing the condition of your disc would be a good start.

Assuming a music CD doesn't start the music program, you can have any number of problems. We'd need to try a few things to determine what it is.

That narrows it down, at least. The hell of it is, I had a Goldstar with the same issues and I can't remember how I fixed it right now. I'll sit on it for a bit.
