My new FZ 1

Hi guys,

Just wanted to come online and say I've purchased a 3DO having been spurred on by a thread on the Jaguar forum pleading for support !! When I was a teeneager in the 90s the 3DO was way out of hands reach..this thread reminded me that these days I can easily pick one up on ebay..so this is what I did.

I'm a bit odd on the respect that the cosmetics of the console are just as important as gameplay to me. Hence I got an FZ-1. I just don't like the others..sorry!

To cut an already boring story short I'm not entirely happy with it. The drive's temperamental and it makes rattle noises when loading. I have previously mentioned the rattle where a couple of you guys told me the rattle is normal for FZ-1s. But then a youtube vid I saw had an old FZ-1 with no rattle. I suppose I could live with the rattle if the games didn't keep crashing (particularly GEX). I fear there's no simple solution other that buying another machine and hopeing for the best.

I have had the machine apart and WD40ed the cogs which made no difference.

Does anyone know where/if I can get a replacement drive..or is this a laughable question?

OR perhaps the crashing could be a design flaw - not enough RAM perhaps??

I'm in a state of happiness with my SNES, JAG/JAGCD, Saturn and Multimega sitting nicely on my TV stand..when I look at the 3DO it fills me with dread and I wonder why I ever purchased the thing!! :?

Cheers guys
Christian

Unfortunatly the cd drive was the weak point of the systems. Some still are running great to this day while some are on the brink of death. Also another note, Orginal Discs will read much better than CD-Rs in the drives that are not doing as good. Sorry to hear about your problems.

Hiya thanks for your reply! So no chance of obtaining a replacement drive?? Oh yes I only have original discs. I tried copying GEX to see if it would play any better but gave worse results..for ten minutes afterwards the 3DO just spat out anything i put in it!! Not going down that route again!

It's too bad you got a tempermental system. This is certainly not the norm as both of the Panasonic models are well known for reliability.
