Killing Time for PC / MAC - What happened?

Not sure how many people have given Killing Time for PC a shot, but if you have you will come to find out that the game shares absolutely 0% resemblance graphically or design wise with its 3DO lineage, save the character actor videos and soundtrack.
My question is...does anyone have any backstory on why they threw away so much content, and created an almost entirely new game around a 3DO game?
Sure 3DO was losing money hand over fist, but the complete redesign still has me scratching my head to this day.
Just wishing they had spruced up the graphics and left the game as is

I've played the PC version. It went the wrong way IMHO. Is it a better game? The jury is out. Did it lose it's personality? Yes. yes it did.
It's like when people get teeth veneers done. Sure it looks better, but they lose something at the same time. Not always for the best.

lmao. I remember when a friend figured the stepping on ducks thing out the first day we played Killing Time. No more ducks were to be shot at after that moment. That sound effect is priceless. lol.

The PC version lost all the personality. Only the soundtrack really kept me interested.
The sprite based enemies killed it for me. Sure the layout was completely different, but if they kept the same enemy characters it could have been pulled off
Its a fun 'case study' in a game being ported onto a diff platform and the drastic changes that can happen

Interesting, I'd never seen that before. I think I actually prefer its level design. It feels more coherent. The opening areas of the 3DO version feel... I dunno... Half-assed?

I recorded some of my Killing Time Gameplay, well, for a youtube clip about it. Then I 've found out, that Killing Time is indexed in Germany (quote "Killing Time, 3DO, 3DO Company, 31.07.1996 indexed"). So, if I upload any Killing Time footage, I could be reported. Damn.
edit: Wait, so I shouldn't write the name down here, should I?
I want the 90ies back.

It's about banning dangerous videogames, quote:
We are an official administrative authority of the German government called "Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien" (BPjM) ("Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons"). Our task is to protect children and adolescents in Germany from any media which might contain harmful or dangerous contents. This work is authorized by the "Youth Protection Law" (Jugendschutzgesetz - JuSchG).

Ouch. Yeah i noticed that quite a bit if you head to the right when you first get inside the mansion. Maybe they were trying to force the "enemies creeping up on you" factor. But yeah I totaly agree with you on that. I seem to not like the game as much as I used to. It has not aged well.
