Interlace flicker question

Post by notsonic » Sun Mar 29, 2009 6:30 pm

I just recently got a 3DO, having never played one in its prime.

One thing that stands out in nearly every game is the amount the screen flickers from it being an interlaced image.

I've tried it on my 27" panasonic tau, 36" sony vega trinitron, 13" commodore 1084s, and a 32" samsung slimfit hd crt.

The only tv to exhibit no flicker was the hd crt. I have a 42" 1080p samsung lcd yet to try it on, as well as a 15" 480p lcd. But I really dont have a regular non flat crt to try it with.

I tried it with both svideo and composite. (and even rf on the panasonic.)

Its an FZ-1, sn: 4HKSH02466 (i think its one of the later models with the shiny top.)

Should I try to get an FZ-10? Maybe another FZ-1? Or do they all just do this.

For reference, I've never been to thrilled with the svideo output of most PC's, and a lot of the interlace flicker on the ps2 is annoying but tolerable.

Hate to make my first thread a complaint, but I can't play the games without getting a headache from the flicker.

I should mention I'm in the US, so its all NTSC/60hz stuff.

I've never noticed flicker or heard of anyone complaining of flicker on the 3DO previously. A quick google search only stumps up some idiot wittering on about a colour flicker in SF2

-- sorry, I think you are on your own.

Id call it more of a shimmer on the leading edge on sharper pictures, Good example is in the screen door transparency in Super street fighters character select loading screen.
I have noticed this on every fz1 model I am sure it is on other makes.
After doing the RGB mod it less noticeable.

Could you get an image of the problem?

Cant guarentee I can help, but I am a filmmaker for a living, and I have a pretty good knowledge of video signals, and interlacing and progressive scans and syncs especially. Ive had to deal with some odd issues across different televisions, so maybe I can help

So perhaps a visual might be in order
