Stuck in Phoenix 3 ... help!

Here is where I am at ...
I've rescued 4 pilots (who are now floating unconscious in space thanks to getting hit by a Gra ship coming through a warp) My ship has just revealed that it has more power than it was letting on, and has told me to get near the others. When I do I'm told to allign with the ship ... um, how do I do this? It is probably obnoxiously easy, but I've tried everything I can think of and have run out of ideas. I am tired of floating aimlessly making no progress ...
