FZ-1-E DEAD?

Post by aquared » Sun May 10, 2009 6:19 pm

Hello! i have found a 3DO Panasonic FZ-1-E model (and some original games) and i have no idea how is suppose to work, i never again have any 3DO experience.

My problem is that is powered ok, wen i press the POWER button is open and the 3DO logo shows on TV (if there is a game in, the disc is starts spinning the ACCESS lights ~3-4 times and nothing from there), the screen after the 3DO logo is always black.

1) What the screen suppose to show in this model after the 3DO logo?

2) Is there anything that i can do to fix, test, or something? (im a PC hardware service technician)

(sorry for my bad English, im from Greece)

Hello Mate!

It's supposed to simply start the game after the 3DO logo. It sounds like your CD Lens is either dirty or broken. Try cleaning the CD lens using the usual techniques. (lens cleaner, soft lint free cloth etc)

(This is assuming that the game CD is spotless of cause)

@3DOKid:
Even without disk is it normal to show black screen? dosent have any menu or something like that like some other model i have sean?

i have try many disk, (i have 15 games) and all of them work the same way, the cd spinning, the access light flash looks like its reading the disk and the spinning speed for a sort time ingress and then decress and its stays to spin in that speed. and the screen shows nothing.

if it is from the lens is there any way to fix it? i have clean it and nothing.

Ah. Sorry mate.

The logo should just keep cycling if no disc is inserted.

You should see meteors and the panasonic logo and the 3DO logo and a 3DO machine rotating and spinning without a disk. And this sequence should never end. There maybe a blank screen at some point, but not for long. (1 or 2 seconds maximum)

Once you put a disk in it should boot up.

If I was you I would open the unit up and re-seat all the plugs, it sounds like it is failing on a self check. If it was really broken it wouldn't do anything right?

Good luck!

So let me make sure I am reading this right...

With a disc, you get a 3do logo and then just a black screen?

and without a disc you dont get anything at all?

IF all the connections are good, it sounds like the main board is damaged. Thats very weird that it attempts booting a cd but no bios screens are shown.

Out of curiosity, what happens when you boot it with the tray open?

The same thing happened to my FZ1 years ago. It was a RGB modded
US model.

5 minutes ago I bought a boxed FZ-10 - for 99 EUR, although I
never thought I would buy a FZ-10.
