Great! Full mental support by me! :-) But hey, maybe a stupid question, but anyway: some people around here have already made some noticeably process and successes in doing homebrew on the 3DO! Nikk3DO made a very nice 3D-cube demo running on a stock machine, Moebius made this bouncing ball demo wor...

Knight Rider

According to episode 55, "Dead of Knight", KITT has
1000 megabits of memory, which equals 125 megabytes.
For 1982 indeed quite impressing.

(Just in case of any (classic) Knight Rider fans hanging around here) :-)

Sent from my Macbook, please excuse brevity.

Does it matter where I buy an S-Video cable from? Radio Shack has them, but they're a lot more expensive then what I can find on evilbay, for a similar length. If you can access any pictures - the longer the cable is, the better shielded it should be. Or, to put it in different words, the thicker t...

Shadowrun catched me big time. Great music - even the SNES Midi sounded pretty handsome already! The graphics might have been good at it's time, but from these days perspective there's a lot of room for improvement. The isometric environment and especially the sprites could do much better. ( Without...

Rebel Assault

Just played a round of good ole fashioned "Rebel Assault" and for
the first time realized that the startup-screen says:

REBEL ASSAULT
VERSION 1.0

Are there higher/lower versions out there?
If so, what are the differences?

For my flatscreen, the old console's picture looked much better and vividly after I reduced the picture sharpness. I took away much of the blocky-ness. But still, the colours arent as lightning as they were on older TVs. Concerning the vertical lines - don't blame your TV. The TVs got better and hen...

I've got a question.
Please don't get me wrong, but when you guys are saying that a
1993's video game console can display on a 16:9 display *without* any stretching / distorting of the picture's geometry - aren't it just the black
(maybe PAL) borders that disappear? So technically just a zoom?

:-) Well, mate, concerning Super Metroid I was thinking of an orchestral soundtrack (not just midi) in Dolby Surround to make the atmosphere even more claustrophobic (is that the way this word is spelled in English...?). Sprites could be coloured up a bit, while leaving the environmental (the more I...

New Remakes?

Alright - since the 3DO could also be considered as a "remake platform"
(Wing Commander, Out of this world, Flashback, Return Fire), I was
wondering what remakes on the 3DO would come in handy, too.

I would like to vote for 2 SNES games:
- Super Metroid
- Shadowrun

If so, the internal Bus, where the CD-drive used to be connected, also supports writing and not only reading - what would be very cool, but also a bit surprising, since it wasn't designed to connect any harddiscs. Obviously, the 3DO's hardware had upgradewise more potential than thought. BTW: It wou...

Never played the Jaguar version, but I loved the 3DO port!
Despite I don't have a 3DO mouse, I even got used to play
this game with the joypad - after a period of practicing it
worked out quite good.

I love that game. It's a bit like a Monty Python movie making
fun of "Syndicate". :)

Oh hey, I am not knocking the Neo Geo, which actually is called a 24 bit system :!: , but the community that surrounds it can be really picky and humorously over bearing is all. 16bit, actually. SD card reader

I recently came across quite a few mods for consoles, where stock SD card readers got connected to the serial port (Dreamcast, e.g.). Wondering how about the 3DO? There's obviously very little known about the 3DO's expansion port, is it serial or parallel? Any infos about the max possible transfer r...

As far as I know, any console can give out pro-logic, as long as the
console is able to handle sampled sound files.
In that case, the sound is already pro-logic (pre-) encoded on the
disc / cartridge.
On-the-fly pro logic encoding requires dedicated sound chips.

Yes, the 3DO surely sends out a quite powerful signal. Compared to the audio out of my MAC or my CD32 it's clearly louder. I don't know if it's still within any standards or above, but my amp (Harman/Kardon) seems to cope with it. Maybe other amps dont - I have no idea. But yes, in this case the aud...

1. Does using the digital out mod eliminate the 'popping' that I hear when using the analogue outs? I'm not quite sure which popping noises you are referring to, but if it's the popping that occurs every now and then only on FZ-1s I'd say no. This popping is due to a software bug within the BIOS fi...

Indeed, interesting!
But considering the prices of those (3DO Blaster) CD drives, it would
probably be cheapest and easiest just to replace the complete drive.
You get FZ-1s for 30 bucks at eBay, I doubt that a Creative Labs drive
would be cheaper?

Very close, but yes. ;) Seriously - the Goldstar 3DO isn't exactly what I would call a reliable, solid piece of hardware. How come the controller is? Is it just because of that? Maybe the controller got so expensive, that they couldn't invest any more money in the production of the 3DO itself anymore?
