Re: Introduce yourself.

Thanks guys, happy to say I have two different semi-broken FZ-1s coming my way. I expect I'll be able to cobble together a working model out of the combination of both of them. I also picked up a PC cdrom drive made by panasonic in the early 90s which I have a hunch might be able to serve as a repla...

Re: Possible replacement CDrom drive units for FZ-1

I just got a cheap variant of the CR563. I don't have a broken console to repair atm, but I will take apart the cd drive when I get it to see if it looks similar to the pictures from the other guy.

Re: Possible replacement CDrom drive units for FZ-1

Everything you bring up is a valid point. All of the components in the drives are going to be just as old as the drive in the 3DO, which implicates concerns for the strength of the plastic, expected lifespan for use of the laser, etc. Further, these drives and the 3DO's drives likely came out of the...

Possible replacement CDrom drive units for FZ-1 (new success

I just found reference to someone who pretty much successfully replaced the entire CDrom drive assembly of an FZ-1 with a similar 1990s PC drive. I thought it would be interesting to share since there are so many people that have issues with the laser, the laser assembly and worm gear. If we can fig...

Re: Introduce yourself.

Hi all, you might remember me from being activeish on the forums around 2013. During 2013 I got a sanyo 3do, played it a bunch, and wound up selling it in early 2014 to put the money toward other old games/hardware (actually went and bought a Jaguar and atari lynx). Now that it's been a little while...

Re: Help! EBAY Problem 3DO Testing Station System

Could it be related to the switch on the back to run unsigned code? Maybe that got switched on in shipping and its an error coming out of that?

I've never seen this error before and google searching doesn't turn anything up.

I had this game and Aces of the Pacific for PC back in the day. I didn't enjoy the games as they were sims rather than arcade style with lots of instant action, but they came with the coolest manuals :)

Any information on this prototype 3do controller?

I could be wrong but this controller didn't see any commercial release? Does anyone have any information on it? That massive dpad intrigues me. The silhouette of the controller kind of compliments the roman column look of the FZ1 too imo.

Nice work. I've long since sold this (as broken) to another 3DO enthusiast. But I know your post will help other users googling for this problem. While searching, I discovered a few other topics on different forums from years past with people who had the same problem, but no solution. :)

Re: Crash 'n Burn

AFAIK, the way to game the system in terms of continues, is to just reset the game if you are not going to win the race. The game autosaves from your last completed race, so you get a free chance to try the race over again from your last saved game.

How will 3DO help you edit your home movies? :?
Was it just me, or did Crash and Burn in this movie have a smoother frame rate than it really does?

Re: DAMN RIBBON CABLE IS THE BAIN OF MY EXISTENCE !!! GRRRR

I had a total of 3 Goldstars and 2 Sanyos out of action - these cables have fixed 2 of the Golstars and one of the Sanyos. Well, it seems from the thread that if you can find a correctly fitting ribbon cable, and the ribbon cable is indeed the problem the console suffers, then it is a good fix ;) T...

This thread contains a lot of information including pictures, but I'm unclear on all of the aspects of the cable. I guess its 30 pins and needs to be about 17 cm, and IDE cable won't work.

Re: Piracy is a crime. Box recreations

Looks awesome. I don't consider this sort of thing to be corrupt or harmful at all when it involves old games that are not for sale by the manufacturer anyway (and or the manufacturer no longer even exists!) and also that it either isn't sold, or if sold, it is sold to a knowledgeable collector who ...

Don't click the link.

Some people say, for SNES and N64 cardboard boxes, that you can iron them and it will take out some of the wrinkles. I've seen before and after pics, and while it isn't a major change that will make them look brand new, the after pic seemed maybe 10% better.

Re: Got my Sanyo 3DO today! (now troubleshooting cdrom drive

Got it back last night. All issues are as the buyer said: disc drive won't open and discs aren't read if they are put back in. I took it apart to get a closer look at things, reseated all the ribbon cables. None of them clearly looked like there were connection issues, but it was obvious to see that...

Welp, buyer received it and claims that the disc drive won't open "and when it does, it won't load games." He wants to send back for a full refund. I'm guessing I've got a classic case of Goldstar style ribbon cable problem going on... or maybe my 3DO just misses me  It's still a little curious...

Re: Got my Sanyo 3DO today! (now with pictures)

Well, I wound up selling this 3DO the other day. It's already been shipped off to its new owner. After actually owning it for a few months, I decided I like the idea of owning this console more than the reality. I like the looks of the console and the controller, but found myself lacking the attenti...
