Re: This is driving me nuts... (3DO Samurai Shodown port)
I think it's a mistake to focus on the "arcade-perfect" part of the story, since it's not a direct quote and I think all of us realize there are differences between the 3DO port and Neo Geo original. In other words I don't think there's a "they" who are claiming the port is arcade-perfect, unless yo...

Re: Let's Play/Drown Out - Killing Time
Good fun! The exchanges about text adventures got a laugh from me, especially this one: G: You could do more natural sentences, you know, like: "Floyd, go into the yellow room and fetch the key for me." It's like, oh, OK. E: Okaaaaay...I don't think that ever worked for me . G: You were playing the ...

Review - Taiketsu Rumiizu!
Since I just beat this one, I thought I'd write a short review. 3DOKid reviewed it a while back , while Hardcore Gaming 101 actually featured it as a "kusoge of the week" , though I think that's unfairly harsh. Taiketsu Rumiizu! (対決 るみーず!) is a Japanese exclusive game that, as I said to my wife, is ...

OK, this format might be more useful. I've included pretty much everything in my NVRAM except for repetitive savegame names (file1, file2, etc.), which were all the same size anyway. Getting ready to fire up The Horde made me want to check what's actually on my FZ-1 save memory, so here are some updates for the list. [I'm starting to feel that I'm talking to myself when I post these reviews, but what the hey... I know the feeling! I find it helpful to think of reviewing these games as an investment in the future. Re: Comprehensive list of 3DO titles?
That version of nixzero's list looks to be improved over the one I have on my hard drive (which I've been editing over time for my own reference), but there are definitely still errors. For instance: Dragon Knight III aka Knights of Xentar doesn't exist on the 3DO Kurokishi no Kamen should be the sa...

Re: Blue Chicago Blues introduction in English
Interesting: there's apparently a Windows version of Blue Chicago Blues, and that's the only other release with the English-language soundtrack (even though it's a Japan-only release if I understand correctly). So that's an option too.

Re: Blue Chicago Blues introduction in English
I had saved a search for it on ePay and when it finally came up it sold for over $600. Out of my price range. Yeah, it's a real shame that the English-language/LaserActive version is so hard to get and so pricy. I suppose if I had a way of digitizing/transferring the contents, I could buy one, capt...

Blue Chicago Blues introduction in English
Here's a video of the introduction of J. B. Harold: Blue Chicago Blues , apparently ripped from the LaserActive laserdisc. The game was also released on the 3DO and several other platforms, but this is the sole version available in English -- all other releases are dubbed in Japanese. (That dubbing...

There's a thread about region-locked and incompatible games here . In addition to the games already mentioned, Kamachi's Museum and Nice Body All-Star Suiei Taikai allegedly don't work on US consoles, though Nice Body is partially playable (the game will crash on a US 3DO if you try to access certai...

Re: Top Scratches, the boon of Retro Gamers and CD's
I've heard of people who successfully restored pressed CDs with reflective substances, so it's certainly worth a try. Somehow I didn't realize until a few years ago that the reflective layer on a silver CD had no data -- it's all in the polycarbonate, which is actually fairly resilient. I guess I go...

Shockingly KT for Mac still runs on the latest revision for OS X except for the ghost apparition movies. They crash the game. That's hard to believe -- Mac OS hasn't supported Classic apps since Tiger/10.4, and PPC code isn't supported since Snow Leopard/10.6. Are you using some kind of emulator? I...

I'm sure ewhac will post it in due time, but he and gammadev have uploaded a new video:
Let's Play/Drown Out - The Need for Speed (3DO, 1994)
I enjoyed it! Not as information-dense as some of the videos (and I'm still eagerly awaiting the next EFMM video ), but the Starcade stuff was a treat.

Re: FZ-10's REVIEW: Stellar 7 Draxon's Revenge
If you want your "review" to be a trusted source of information, then yeah, I'd argue completing the game is one of the most important factors. All too often games start well but end poorly for one reason or another. This is crucial to making a statement whether a particular game is indeed worth so...

The price of Trip'd went through a weird spike a few months ago, as I recall. I was making a trade with someone for the empty longbox (already had the jewel case), checked up on completed auctions, and was surprised by how high the prices had gotten. I got my jewel case copy for $9 a few years ago.

Well, The Incredible Machine comes new with the Game Disc as well as the instruction booklet. I have a copy of the Mac version of Isis, and have been planning to fire it up and maybe review it later this year ( similar to what I did with Kingdom II: Shadoan ). I doubt it was any huge loss to the 3DO, but it'd still be nice to have it for the system. IIRC, it's a puzzle-adventure game built a...

Even percentage-wise it's not as high. The Saturn and TurboGrafx-16 libraries are both more than 75% Japan-exclusive. With the NES it's much harder to give a decent estimate, but I'd be surprised if the percentage of Japan exclusives is less than 50%. OK, but let's also note that those consoles wer...
