Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

I really hope so! Well, finally changed the last remaining caps. The 4 SMDs 6V 100uF caps were replaced by Sanyo SVP of the same value. The motherboard looks visually amazing with all these new caps. xD There's solid caps everywhere you look, the big brown one on the power supply, and the black and ...

Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

I kinda do it for fun already. hahaha xD Also, my 3DO's sound already had weird crackling noises due to capacitor aging. Not only that problem is fixed now, but the console probably sounds better now than it did back in the day it was released. A little update on the matter: Every single cap was rep...

Re: FZ-1 disc read issues

Fz-1 and Fz-10 share the same CD-rom drive, basically. So the Fz-10 is not more realiable than a Fz-1, the only disadvantage for the FZ-1 is the loading tray, wich can get stuck from a worn belt or bad lubrication. The screws on the top of your drive should come off easily... Someone must have messe...

Changed more caps today, they won't stop arriving now. xD 6.3V 47uF - Replaced by solid Sanyo Os-con (4X) 6.3 470uF - Replaced by solid Sanyo SEP 10V 1000uF - Replaced by Nippon Chemi-Con KZE Series Most of the capacitors in the system were replaced already, problem with Gex persists, but something ...

Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

The slowdowns happens when music and a sound effect are played at the same time. Something could be out of sync, I've also thought about the crystal oscillators of the console (I found 3 in the main motherboard, an 1 more on the CD-drive board), if they're bad the console could have serious issues. ...

Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

Changed the fan today. Bought a 12V sunon Maglev 40mm, changed it's connector for the one that came with the original fan. Although the console feeds the fan with 9V, there's not much problem in using a 12V model instead, it will just spin slower. Also, this Sunon fan has much higher airflow than no...

Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

Just changed the 6.3V 1000uF capacitor of the power supply area, from my researchs, this is the capacitor with highest failure rate on the system, and the big 25V 6800uF comes in second. Choose a Fujitsu solid capacitor for this, the same kind you'd find in high-end motherboards. This thing is suppo...

Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

Yeah. haha I must admit I'm having fun changing capacitors in my systems, it feels like tuning a car, or doing something to improve your home. Yesterday I worked on my SegaCD model 2, It worked fine but would stop reading discs after a while. I changed some capacitors in the CD drive (most of them a...

I'm a bit paranoid with internal organization, so yeah, if it's not good looking I won't do it. heheh Here's a pic of my original Xbox using a 50F super capacitor for the clock. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/acrof/DSC03122_zpsiqrtoadh.jpg Just for comparison, the original clock capacitor: h...

Re: About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

Some of the caps arrived today and I've replaced them. But before I get into that, I think it's a good idea to list all the capcitors I found inside my Fz-1: Power supply area: 25V 6800uF 105º (the biggest capacitor in the system) 6.3V 1000uF (right next to the big one) 16V 10uF Main board: 16V 10uF...

About to do a complete recap on my Fz-1

Well, some of you might remember that one of my first posts here was about my Fz-1 acting up when playing GEX. The music suffered from a terrible slowdown after some audio effects played, but only in GEX. I tried to burn many copies of different isos, and in different burners, with many different me...

Re: Memory Unit - Worth it? (nevermind, it's mine now xP)

Wonderful picture! Anything interesting on the bottom or just traces? And of course, it has to have at least one 3DO proprietary chip in it. It would be cool, although unrealistic to make more memory units, possibly with more storage space. I've had ideas for making an adapter for PS1 memory cards ...

Re: Memory Unit - Worth it? (nevermind, it's mine now xP)

Got a chance to test it today. xD Surprisingly enough, it's still working after all these years! There were a couple of MegaRace files inside, one Gex save, and something I couldn't identify by the name. Interestingly enough, this memory unit works with "blocks" or "pages". I has 8 banks of 32KB mem...

Re: Memory Unit - Worth it?

Well, a working 3DO console goes for 400-500 bucks minimum here in Brazil. And this memory unit I found is costing 230 bucks. As I said, it's costing half the price of one 3DO console. I think I'll buy it anyways. xP That way I'll be able to transfer saves between consoles, that's pretty sweet. xP E...

Memory Unit - Worth it? (nevermind, it's mine now xP)

Well, I was browsing the web looking to buy more 3DO stuff, and came across a Memory Unit, in pretty good shape, but without box or memory manager CD, but, for like 1/5 the price they usually go on ebay. It's also untested, as the seller doesn't have a 3DO console to test it. I tried to read more ab...

Re: Panasonic 3DO FZ-10 Drive Switch

I once had a problem with the mini switch that goes in the laser tray. I found a replament for it in a very old Sony discman. Only had to solder the wire from the original switch to it and it was all good. Here's the discman I took the switch from: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d5/...

Re: Found the Panasonic SF-92.5 lens for sale, is this real?

Well, after all these years, I've been able to buy myself a replacement laser for my Fz-1. I found it on Aliexpress, wich has "normal" paying methods, and it's also cheap. In the search field, just type "3do", there's only one seller with the SF-92.5. It arrived TODAY, and I thought it would be a go...

Re: Found the Panasonic SF-92.5 lens for sale, is this real?

They're cheap but the shipping isn't.

I live in Brazil, and the shipping alone was over 40 dollars...

I tried to buy using my sister's Visa, it didn't work. xD

If someone actually gets to buy one, please let me know, I want to buy some.

Re: Found the Panasonic SF-92.5 lens for sale, is this real?

The site says there's 140 of them in stock. Lol

I belive that's enough for each one of us, Panasonic 3DO owners (in this site), to grab at least 2 of them. xD

This could be the greatest find of the year, if these lasers prove to work flawlessly on our 3DOs.

If you google "[insert game system name here] prologic" you'll find list of games that have the Dolby logo, however, many games will work in surround but use a different encoding system. Basically any Prologic game has the DOLBY logo on the box art: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tWXmne7k8-I/ThNGDr5kSHI/...

I used to belive the same, but some games on the SNES and most on the Genesis simply don't output sound in the rear channel. It's completely MUTE. Try to play Sonic 3 with a Prologic enabled amp, and you'll see the magic happen. :D When I first heard about that, I didn't belive it, until I tested it...

You have surround sound even on the SNES and Genesis, that goes to Sega CD, Saturn, PS1 and N64 too. However, not all titles have multi channel sound, and not all titles use Prologic. Most games on Sega use "Q Sound", some games on the SNES don't have anything on their labels/start screen that show ...

Need help with my Fz-1, music slowing down when playing Gex.

Just bought myself a "new" 3DO, and decided to buy the FZ-1 this time (my previous one was a Fz-10) and to go with it I also bought a japanese Gex disc. Strangely, when it gets to the title screen the music goes slow motion for some reason and the music gets all messed up during gameplay. I noticed ...
